This course is designed to provide students with a basic knowledge of the auditing skills required to plan and conduct Internal Audits within their own organisation and meet the requirements of the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Standard.

This course aims to provide students with the skills necessary to plan, conduct and execute internal audits and to be able to write effective audit reports and associated nonconformity reports. Successful completion of the course will provide a basis for students who wish to go on to apply for IRCA registration as an EMS internal auditor.
In order for students to achieve the overall learning objectives, they will need to acquire and develop specific knowledge. This is specified below as ‘enabling objectives’ and can be considered as steps to the achievement of the learning objectives stated above. Students will be able to:

IRCA recommends all students have the following prior knowledge before attending this course:
Management systems
Knowledge of environmental management systems and the requirements of ISO 14001 which may be gained by completing an IRCA certified EMS Foundation Training course (or equivalent such as The IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management).
The concept of environmental sustainable development whereby an organisation must ensure that actions of today do not degrade the environment of the future.
The purpose of an initial review as the basis for establishing an environmental management system where none currently exists.
Evaluation of activities, products and services in order to establish the environmental aspects associated with normal operating conditions, abnormal conditions such as start up and shutdown and emergency situations and accidents.

A pre-course assignment on the above subjects will be sent to students to complete prior to attending the course.
All QHSE courses involve a high level of student participation. A full set of student notes will be provided and a Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to students meeting the course assessment criteria.
