ISO 9001:2015 Foundation Course

Description

This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Standard.  Prior knowledge of the ISO9001:2015 standard is a pre-requisite for attending Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor Courses which this course provides.

Aims

This course aims to provide students who have an existing basic knowledge of, or experience in, quality management with an understanding of the management systems approach and the requirements of ISO 9001, and to provide a basis for students who wish to go on to complete IRCA certified QMS auditor training courses..

Learning Objectives

Learning objectives describe what students will know and be able to do by the end of the course. On completion, successful students will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose and benefits of a quality management system;
  • Outline the structure and content of ISO 9001 and its relationship with ISO 9000;
  • Explain the specific quality management-related requirements of ISO 9001.
Enabling Objectives

In order for students to achieve the overall learning objectives, they will need to acquire and develop specific knowledge. This is specified below as ‘enabling objectives’ and can be considered as steps to the achievement of the learning objectives stated above. Explain the purpose and benefits of a quality management system:

  • Explain the purpose of a quality management system and the benefits of improving quality performance;
  • Explain the process approach used in quality management;
  • Outline the structure and content of ISO 9001 and its relationship with ISO 9000;
  • Outline, with reference to the Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle and the Model of a Process-based Quality Management System, the structure and content of ISO 9001;
  • Making reference to the Eight Quality Principles, describe the relationship between ISO 9000 and ISO 9001 requirements;
  • Explain the specific quality management related requirements of ISO 9001;
  • Describe the purpose of a quality policy, and the requirements for its implementation and review;
  • Describe the role of quality planning in developing appropriate quality objectives and measures of performance, as related to products and processes associated with customer satisfaction, and conformity of product to statutory and regulatory requirements;
  • Describe requirements for quality objectives and the relationship between the quality objectives and the quality policy, quality planning, monitoring and measuring of products and processes, and management review;
  • Give examples of the resources needed to achieve customer satisfaction and conformity to product requirements, and describe the requirements for resource management;
  • Describe typical product realisation processes and process controls that may be applied to these processes, in order to achieve customer satisfaction and conformity of product to statutory and regulatory requirements;
  • Describe the requirements for measurement, analysis and improvement of quality performance against policy and planned objectives, including monitoring customer satisfaction, the use of internal audit and monitoring, and measurement of processes and products;
  • Describe the processes involved in achieving continual improvement of quality performance through improving the effectiveness of the quality management system and related processes.
